Mariscal de Campo Don Carlos de Espana’s small Castilian division, of 6 battalions and a battery, served as an integral part of Wellington’s army during 1812 and most of 1813.

In October 1811 Wellington had requested blue clothing and other supplies for ‘a      division of ( 4000 ) infantry now raising in Castille under Don Carlos de Espana, to which  ‘I have supplied arms and black   accoutrements’.

In January and February 1812 the shipments arrived  comprising 4000 items of each - blue coatees faced red with white turnbacks, blue pantaloons, pairs of gaiters, forage caps, Tarleton helmets with red plume, knapsacks,     greatcoats, pairs of shoes, wood canteens and haversacks.
